A specialist building that can support the growing demands of wild animals and birds, and provide a dedicated base for increasing wildlife awareness in schoolchildren and adults, is desperately needed.

De La Rue plc has kindly identified a suitable piece of their land where this special hospital could be built and planning permission was granted by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in 2003. The River Test runs nearby and this will provide an excellent and safe release site for many birds and small mammals.

The decision to move to a new site has been widely welcomed, particularly by those colleges whose students receive vital work experience at HART. A wing of the building will be devoted to the educational needs of these colleges, schools and the general public. It is hoped that this will generate some of the income that will be needed to run a larger and much improved facility.
