We have a special team of volunteers who help to 'over-winter' late born and underweight hedgehogs. In the past few years more hedgehogs have been brought to us than we could possibly look after at the hospital so we keep those who need more attention and foster the rest.

Courses are run for foster families every autumn. We don't know how we would manage without our fosterers, they are a tremendous help to us.

The work involves feeding, cleaning out (we won’t lie – hedgehogs are VERY messy and can be VERY smelly) and exercising. They can be housed indoors until they reach the weight needed to hibernate then they can go outside into a hutch or similar.
