HART’s new hospital is open for business!
A WHOLE new chapter has opened for HART Wildlife Rescue with the move of the hospital to new premises at Soldridge Business Park, Medstead.
Inevitably, there are still a few snags to iron out but it is a huge relief that the first animals and birds are now being cared for at the new unit. There were six adult hedgehogs and six babies in the first consignment plus 14 birds. These included a couple of very tiny swifts, several baby blackbirds of various sizes and a jay whose beautiful coloured feathers were just starting to appear. They all now stand a very good chance of survival.

The empty shell of the business unit has been cleverly converted into a series of rooms leading from a purpose built reception where the public will be able to bring patients. There are two recovery rooms, an isolation unit, a treatment room, a staff room, toilet and shower, and a separate utility room complete with washing machine and tumble drier. The ‘utility’ at Dellands used to be in the basement and the joy of being able to stand up after filling the machines without bumping your head on the ceiling will be much appreciated by staff and volunteers.
“Moving was hard work and it will take a little while before we are fully operational,” said hospital manager Charmian Greenland-Jones. “But it is great to be here and a relief that everyone survived the journey.”
Not all the creatures at Dellands at the time of the move could be transferred, see page 4, as there is not yet a pond at Medstead. The outside pens and aviaries have still to be constructed and this phase of the project will be completed as soon as possible.
“As always we are very grateful to our brilliant volunteers who helped with the move,” Charmian added. “Many thanks to Alan Douglas, Karen Margesson, Rhianon and her mum. They were a great help and I doubt that Caragh and I could have managed without them.
Alton shop moves to larger premises
ALTON’s charity shop, in The Mall off the High Street, became such a huge success that it has moved to larger premises. It was officially opened at the beginning of June by clinical manager Charmian Greenland-Jones. The new building, known as The Island, is in the centre of the Bank car park. It has been completely refurbished inside and offers the charity much needed extra space.

The HART shop will now be able to sell an even wider range of high quality bric-a-brac, furniture, books, CDs, greetings cards, jewellery and the many other items that has made the shop so popular.
More volunteers are always needed and anyone who feels they can spare a few hours on a regular basis would be most welcome to pop into the shop for further details, or call 07972 038766.
Good quality donations are also always needed.
